Fly tying bead manufacturers

The two primary materials are Tungsten and Brass. Tungsten beads are approximately 1.7 times heavier than brass, allowing flies to sink rapidly into the 'strike zone' in fast-moving water. Brass beads are more economical and suitable for shallow or slow-moving water where a slower sink rate is desired. For premium B2B sourcing, ensure the tungsten content is at least 95-97% to guarantee density.

Countersunk beads feature a tapered hole and are the standard for straight-shank hooks. Slotted beads are specifically designed for jig hooks, as the slot allows the bead to slide around the bend and sit offset, ensuring the fly rides 'hook point up' to reduce snags. Always verify the slot width to ensure compatibility with heavy-wire competition hooks.

High-quality beads should have an electroplated or metallic anodized finish that resists chipping against rocks. Look for 'diamond-cut' or 'faceted' surfaces which provide extra flash. Ensure the beads are lead-free to comply with environmental regulations in markets like the USA (California Prop 65) and the EU (REACH).

Beads are typically measured in millimeters. Common sizes include 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 2.8mm, 3.3mm, and 3.8mm. As a professional buyer, you should request a size-to-hook compatibility chart from the supplier to ensure the inner diameter (ID) fits the wire gauge of standard hook brands like Mustad or TMC.

Tungsten is a high-value commodity, and some suppliers may use lead-cores or lower-density alloys. You should request a density test report or perform a water displacement test on samples. On Made-in-China.com, prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone third-party verification of their manufacturing capabilities.

Because beads are small and lightweight, shipping costs per unit decrease significantly with volume. Negotiate for bulk packaging (e.g., 1,000 pieces per bag) rather than retail packaging to lower the unit price. Aim for a tiered pricing structure where the price drops by 15-20% when moving from 5,000 to 20,000 units.

Fly tying beads are classified under HS Code 950790 (Fishing tackle). Ensure the commercial invoice clearly states 'Non-Toxic' if they are tungsten, as this can expedite customs clearance in regions with strict lead bans. For shipping, use air freight for high-value tungsten to minimize lead times, while sea freight is more viable for heavy bulk orders of brass beads.

Always use Secured Payment services provided by the platform to ensure funds are only released after the Bill of Lading (B/L) is uploaded or the goods pass inspection. For large orders, consider hiring a third-party inspection service to check for color consistency and hole smoothness before the final balance is paid.
