Export mattress manufacturers

When evaluating mattress quality, focus on core support systems and material density. For innerspring or hybrid models, prioritize individually pocketed coils with a wire gauge between 1.8mm and 2.3mm for durability. For foam layers, ensure a minimum density of 30kg/m³ for comfort layers and 50kg/m³ for memory foam to prevent premature sagging. Additionally, verify the edge support system, such as high-density foam encasement, which increases the usable sleep surface by up to 20%.

Compliance varies significantly by destination. For the US market, mattresses must strictly adhere to 16 CFR Part 1633 (open flame) and 16 CFR Part 1632 (cigarette ignition) flammability standards. For the UK market, compliance with BS 7177 (Crib 5 for commercial use) is essential. Furthermore, ensure all foam components are CertiPUR-US® or OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified to guarantee the absence of harmful chemicals like formaldehyde and heavy metals.

Roll-packing (vacuum compression) is the industry standard for cross-border e-commerce as it reduces shipping volume by up to 75%, significantly lowering LCL or FCL freight costs. However, ensure the supplier uses high-resilience foam that can recover its original shape within 24-48 hours after unpacking. Prolonged compression (over 6 months) can damage the internal structure, so coordinate production dates closely with your shipping schedule.

Look for suppliers capable of Private Label (OEM) services, including custom ticking (fabric) designs using cooling fibers like Tencel or Bamboo. Request options for modular firmness levels (e.g., flippable firmness) and zoned support systems (3-zone or 7-zone) which target pressure relief for the shoulders and hips. The ability to provide custom-branded packaging and inserts is also vital for direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands.

Always mandate a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) by a third-party agency (like SGS or Intertek). Specifically, request a 'Compression Recovery Test' and a 'Smell Test' to ensure no chemical off-gassing. Utilize Trade Assurance services on platforms like Made-in-China.com to secure your payment until the inspection report is approved.

Mattress margins are heavily influenced by raw material costs (steel and chemicals). Negotiate a tiered pricing structure based on volume; for example, a 10-15% discount is typical when moving from a 20GP to a 40HQ container. If you are a startup, look for suppliers on Made-in-China.com that offer low MOQ (e.g., 10-30 pieces) for trial orders to test market response before committing to full containers.

Due to the weight and bulk, FOB (Free On Board) is generally preferred for large orders to maintain control over sea freight costs. Ensure the supplier uses heavy-duty moisture-proof PE bags and reinforced 5-layer corrugated boxes to prevent dampness and physical damage during long-haul maritime transit. For Amazon FBA sellers, confirm the supplier can meet specific labeling and palletization requirements to avoid rejection at the warehouse.

Be aware that the US and other regions have imposed significant anti-dumping duties on mattresses from specific countries. To navigate this, source from suppliers with manufacturing bases in Southeast Asia (e.g., Vietnam, Thailand) or those who provide a clear Certificate of Origin. Always consult with a licensed customs broker to verify the current HTS Code and applicable duty rates before finalizing the transaction.
