Winter garments manufacturers

When evaluating winter garments, you must prioritize thermal insulation and weatherproofing. Look for fill power (600-800+) for down jackets or grams per square meter (GSM) for synthetic insulation. Ensure the outer shell has a Waterproof Rating of at least 10,000mm and a Breathability Rating of 10,000g/m² to prevent moisture buildup. Additionally, verify the use of taped seams and YKK waterproof zippers to ensure durability in extreme conditions.

Compliance is critical to avoid customs seizures. For the US market, ensure products meet CPSIA standards (especially for children's wear) and FTC labeling requirements (fiber content and care instructions). For the EU, products must comply with REACH regulations regarding chemical substances. If you are marketing 'eco-friendly' products, look for OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Global Recycled Standard (GRS), or Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certifications to validate ethical sourcing.

Request a Pre-Production Sample (PPS) and subject it to third-party lab testing. Key tests include colorfastness to rubbing and washing, pilling resistance, and tensile strength. For winter gear, a hydrostatic head test is essential to confirm water resistance. Ensure the supplier provides a detailed tech pack that specifies stitch density (usually 10-12 stitches per inch) to prevent seam slippage under heavy wear.

Design varies significantly by end-use. Extreme Cold/Arctic gear requires multi-layer systems and windproof membranes. Active Winter Sports (Ski/Snowboard) gear needs powder skirts, pit zips for ventilation, and articulated joints. For Urban/Fashion winter wear, the focus shifts to aesthetic silhouettes and lightweight warmth, often utilizing wool blends or high-sheen nylon fabrics.

To ensure transaction security, always use Trade Terms that offer payment protection. Utilize the Secured Trading services on Made-in-China.com to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment. Conduct a factory audit or hire a third-party inspector like SGS or Intertek to perform a During Production Check (DUPRO) and a Final Random Inspection (FRI) before the final payment is settled.

Winter garments have high material costs, so negotiate based on fabric wastage and seasonal capacity. You can often achieve a 10-15% price reduction by placing orders during the 'off-season' (Spring/Summer). If your volume is low, suggest using 'stock fabrics' already available at the factory to lower the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ). Always request a tiered pricing structure to understand how costs scale from 500 to 5,000 units.

Winter garments are high-volume (bulky). Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) is the most economical for large orders, but you must account for a 30-45 day lead time. If you need to hit a specific seasonal launch, consider Sea-Air combined transport or Rail Freight (for Eurasia) as a middle ground. To reduce costs, ask the supplier to use vacuum packaging to compress the garments, significantly reducing the volumetric weight and shipping charges.

Stay informed about Anti-Dumping Duties and specific Section 301 tariffs (for US buyers) that may apply to synthetic fibers. Check the Harmonized System (HS) Codes (typically Chapter 61 or 62) to calculate accurate Import Duties. Sourcing from countries with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) can reduce duties to zero, so verify the Certificate of Origin provided by your supplier.
