Wicker basket manufacturers

Buyers must distinguish between natural fibers (willow, rattan, seagrass, water hyacinth) and synthetic PE rattan. Natural materials are ideal for eco-friendly branding and indoor home decor but require fumigation certificates for cross-border trade. For outdoor use or high-moisture environments like bathrooms, synthetic PE wicker is preferred due to its UV resistance and waterproof properties. Ensure the internal wire frame is powder-coated to prevent rust.

For food-contact baskets (e.g., bread baskets), ensure compliance with FDA (US) or LFGB (EU) food-grade standards. For general storage, check for REACH compliance regarding dyes and varnishes. A critical requirement for natural wood/wicker is the Phytosanitary Certificate, which proves the goods have been treated against pests. Always request ISO 9001 certification from the manufacturer to ensure consistent weaving density and structural integrity.

Focus on the weaving density and termination points; high-quality baskets have tucked-in ends that won't snag fabrics. Check the load-bearing capacity—reinforced handles should be integrated into the main structure rather than just surface-attached. For bulk orders, specify a moisture content level below 12-15% to prevent mold growth during long-term sea freight transit.

Most professional suppliers on Made-in-China.com offer OEM/ODM services, including custom dimensions, logo branding (via leather tags or fabric liners), and bespoke pantone color matching. Buyers should also consider removable and washable inner liners (cotton or linen) to add value and improve hygiene for end-consumers.

The biggest risks are mold and pest infestation due to humidity changes in containers. To mitigate this, ensure the supplier uses silica gel desiccant packets in every master carton and provides a Fumigation Certificate. Additionally, wicker is 'volumetric cargo,' meaning you may be charged based on dimensional weight. Ask your supplier about nesting packaging (placing smaller baskets inside larger ones) to significantly reduce shipping volumes and costs.

Utilize Secured Trading Services on Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until the goods are shipped. When negotiating, request a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) by a third party to verify that the weaving quality and quantity match the Proforma Invoice. For large orders, negotiate a 30% deposit and 70% balance payment against the Bill of Lading (B/L) to maintain financial leverage.

Prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site factory inspections. Check their export experience specifically to your target country, as they will be more familiar with local customs requirements (like the Lacey Act in the US for plant-based products). Review their production capacity to ensure they can handle seasonal peaks without compromising the handmade quality of the weaving.
