Wholesale exercise book manufacturers

When evaluating exercise books, the most critical factor is the paper weight (GSM). For standard school use, 55-70 GSM is common, while premium notebooks require 80-100 GSM to prevent ink bleeding. You must also specify the binding method: staple bound (cost-effective for thin books), spiral bound (durable and lays flat), or sewn/glued binding (professional look). Additionally, confirm the ruling specifications, such as single line, square grid (5mm/7mm), or French ruling (Seyes), to ensure they meet the educational standards of your target market.

B2B buyers should prioritize suppliers with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification to guarantee sustainable wood sourcing. For the European market, ensure compliance with EN71-3 (safety of toys/stationery) to verify that the inks and paper are non-toxic and lead-free. For the US market, compliance with ASTM D-4236 is essential. Always request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for the brightness levels of the paper, as excessively high brightness can cause eye strain for students.

Most professional manufacturers on Made-in-China.com offer extensive OEM/ODM services. This includes custom cover printing (using 250-300 GSM ivory board or duplex board), logo embossing, and UV coating or lamination for water resistance. You can also customize the inner page count (typically 32, 48, 64, or 96 sheets) and add educational inserts like multiplication tables or maps on the inside covers.

Request samples to perform a 'pen test' to check for feathering and ghosting with different ink types. Check the tensile strength of the binding by opening the book repeatedly to ensure pages do not fall out. For staple-bound books, ensure the staples are galvanized to prevent rusting in humid climates. A stitching pitch of no more than 5mm is recommended for sewn books to ensure long-term durability.

The biggest risk is moisture damage during sea freight, which can warp paper. Ensure the supplier uses heavy-duty moisture-proof pallets and desiccant bags inside the containers. Another risk is quantity discrepancies; always stipulate a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) by a third party to verify the exact carton count and weight against the packing list.

Stationery is a low-margin, high-volume industry. To get the best price, aim for Full Container Load (FCL) orders to reduce unit shipping costs. If you are a new buyer, negotiate a staggered MOQ where you start with a smaller trial order but commit to a larger annual volume to lock in Tier 1 pricing. Mention that you are sourcing via Made-in-China.com to leverage the platform's supplier transparency and competitive environment.

Because paper is heavy, Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) is the only economically viable option for wholesale. Use FOB (Free On Board) terms to maintain control over your shipping costs and choice of forwarder. Ensure the supplier uses 5-layer corrugated export cartons with plastic strapping to prevent bursting during transit. For customs clearance, ensure the HS Code (typically 4820.20) is correctly declared to avoid tariff penalties.

Always use Secured Trading Services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until the goods are shipped. Avoid paying 100% upfront; the industry standard is a 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) copy. Conduct a factory audit or request a video tour to verify the supplier's production capacity and machinery.
