Water purification tablets manufacturers

The most common active ingredients are NaDCC (Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate), Chlorine Dioxide, and Iodine. NaDCC is widely preferred for B2B sourcing due to its long shelf life (up to 5 years) and efficiency in killing bacteria, viruses, and cysts. Chlorine Dioxide is superior for neutralizing Cryptosporidium and Giardia, though it often requires a longer contact time (up to 4 hours) compared to the 30 minutes required for standard chlorine-based tablets.

For global distribution, ensure the manufacturer complies with WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines for drinking water quality. Key certifications include NSF/ANSI Standard 60 (for water treatment chemicals) and EPA registration for the US market. In the EU, products must align with the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR). Always request a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for every batch to verify the concentration of active chlorine.

Sourcing requirements vary by end-use: Emergency Relief/Humanitarian aid usually requires high-volume strips (e.g., 67mg tablets for 10-20L of water). Outdoor/Camping retail favors small, portable blister packs (e.g., 8.5mg tablets for 1L of water). For Industrial or Military use, prioritize heavy-duty foil packaging to ensure the tablets remain stable under extreme temperatures and humidity.

Water purification tablets are most effective in clear water. If the source water is turbid (cloudy), the organic matter can neutralize the disinfectant. Buyers should consider sourcing dual-action tablets that combine a flocculant/coagulant (to settle sediment) with a disinfectant, or advise end-users to pre-filter water through a cloth.

Water purification tablets are classified as Class 5.1 Oxidizing Substances or Class 9 Miscellaneous Dangerous Goods depending on the concentration. You must ensure the supplier provides a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and a Dangerous Goods Declaration. Failure to declare these correctly can lead to customs seizure or heavy fines during international transit.

Utilize Trade Assurance services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until delivery. It is highly recommended to appoint a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI). They should specifically test for tablet friability (to ensure they don't crumble into powder during shipping) and dissolution time.

Focus on shelf-life guarantees and packaging integrity. Negotiate for multi-layered aluminum foil packaging to prevent moisture ingress, which is the leading cause of product failure. For large volumes, aim for a tiered pricing structure where a 20% increase in volume yields at least a 5-8% reduction in unit cost.

Be aware of anti-dumping duties on chlorinated isocyanurates (like NaDCC) in certain regions, including the US and EU, when sourcing from specific Asian hubs. Check the HS Code (typically 3808.94) against your local tariff schedule to calculate the Total Landed Cost accurately before finalizing the contract.
