Used scrap shears manufacturers

When sourcing used scrap shears, you must prioritize the cutting force (tonnage) and blade length. Ensure the shear provides sufficient pressure (typically 400 to 1250 tons for industrial scrap) to handle your specific material density. Check the hydraulic system pressure and cycle time to ensure operational efficiency. Additionally, verify the wear plate condition and the remaining life of the cutting blades, as these are high-cost consumables.

Request a video of the machine in operation under load, not just idling. Look for hydraulic leaks, unusual noises from the main pump, and signs of structural welding repairs on the shear head or frame. It is critical to ask for the original manufacturing year and total operating hours. If possible, hire a third-party inspector to perform a non-destructive test (NDT) on critical stress points to check for fatigue cracks.

The equipment should ideally comply with CE marking (Europe) or ANSI B11.4 (USA) safety standards for shears. Ensure the emergency stop systems and safety interlocks are fully functional. For cross-border trade, verify that the machine meets the environmental and noise emission regulations of the destination country to avoid import rejection.

Buying used can save 40-60% of the initial capital expenditure. However, you must calculate the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), including refurbishment costs, shipping, and potential downtime. A used shear is economically viable if the main hydraulic cylinder and motor are in good condition, as replacing these components can cost nearly as much as a new mid-range unit.

The biggest risks include hidden mechanical defects and customs clearance issues related to 'waste' regulations. Some countries have strict laws against importing 'junk'; therefore, the machine must be documented as functional second-hand equipment, not scrap. Always use Made-in-China.com's secured payment services or Letters of Credit (L/C) to ensure funds are only released upon verification of shipping documents.

Do not negotiate on price alone. Negotiate for replacement of wear parts (like new blades or seals) to be included in the final price. Demand a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) clause in the contract. Ask the supplier to provide a guarantee period (typically 3-6 months) specifically for the PLC and hydraulic valves, which are prone to failure during re-installation.

Scrap shears are heavy and often oversized. You must confirm if the unit requires a Flat Rack container or Breakbulk shipping. Ensure the supplier performs professional rust-proofing (sea salt protection) and secure internal bracing to prevent the shear head from shifting during transit. Verify that the supplier provides a detailed packing list and assembly manual to facilitate reassembly at your site.

Conduct thorough due diligence by checking the supplier's business license and export history on Made-in-China.com. Avoid direct wire transfers to private accounts. Utilize Trade Assurance equivalent services to protect your deposit. Always retain a signed and chopped (stamped) Proforma Invoice that clearly states the machine's serial number and condition.
