Stone paper bag manufacturers

Stone paper is primarily composed of Calcium Carbonate (80%) and High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) (20%). Unlike traditional paper, it requires zero water, zero trees, and zero bleach during production. The technical advantages include being naturally waterproof, tear-resistant, and grease-proof, making it an ideal choice for high-end retail and heavy-duty packaging.

Buyers should prioritize suppliers who hold Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certification, which validates the circular economy potential of the material. Additionally, ensure compliance with REACH (EU) and FDA (US) if the bags are intended for food contact. Since stone paper is photodegradable, verify testing reports showing that the material breaks down into calcium carbonate dust under prolonged UV exposure.

Stone paper has a non-porous surface, which means it does not absorb ink like wood-pulp paper. It requires soy-based inks or UV inks for optimal adhesion and clarity. Buyers should specify offset printing or flexographic printing and request a sample to check for ink scuff resistance, as the smooth texture can sometimes lead to smudging if not cured correctly.

For retail shopping bags, a thickness of 140um to 200um (microns) is standard. A 180um stone paper bag can typically support 5kg to 8kg without tearing, thanks to its high tensile strength. For heavy-duty applications, look for reinforced bottom inserts and nylon or cotton rope handles with metal eyelets to prevent handle-hole failure.

Stone paper is sensitive to extreme UV exposure and high temperatures (above 65°C), which can trigger the degradation process. Ensure the supplier uses opaque, UV-stabilized outer packaging for shipping cartons. On Made-in-China.com, you should request container loading supervision to ensure goods are not placed near the heat-conductive walls of the container.

The cost of stone paper is relatively stable compared to volatile wood pulp prices. To optimize costs, aim for an MOQ of at least 5,000 to 10,000 units, where economies of scale significantly reduce the unit price. Negotiate based on Total Landed Cost, and ask the supplier if they can offer tiered pricing based on annual volume commitments rather than single-order quantities.

Always utilize the Secured Trading Service provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until the goods are shipped. Before transferring large sums, conduct a factory audit or hire a third-party inspector to verify the supplier's production capacity and ISO 14001 environmental management credentials.

Stone paper is significantly denser and heavier than traditional paper (specific gravity approx. 1.0-1.3). This means shipping costs per volume will be higher. When calculating logistics, compare Sea Freight (LCL/FCL) against air freight, as air freight is often cost-prohibitive for this specific material. Ensure your warehouse floor-loading capacity is rated for high-density pallet storage.
