Buyers should prioritize moisture-wicking capabilities and breathability to ensure user comfort. Look for fabrics with a high GSM (Grams per Square Meter) for durability, typically ranging from 150 to 280 GSM depending on the activity level. Ensure the use of four-way stretch technology (usually a blend of Polyester and Spandex/Elastane) to allow for maximum range of motion. Additionally, verify seam construction, such as flatlock stitching, which minimizes skin irritation and enhances garment strength during high-intensity movements.

To ensure safety and market access, products should ideally meet OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, which guarantees the absence of harmful chemicals. For the U.S. market, compliance with CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) is essential, especially for children's apparel. For European markets, adherence to REACH regulations is required. If you are sourcing sustainable products, look for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) or GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certifications to verify eco-friendly claims.

Conduct a colorfastness test (ISO 105-B02) to ensure dyes do not bleed during perspiration or washing. Perform a pilling resistance test to check if the fabric surface remains smooth after friction. It is also critical to check the shrinkage rate, which should be less than 3-5% after multiple industrial wash cycles. Requesting a third-party inspection report from agencies like SGS or Intertek before bulk shipment is a highly recommended industry practice.

A professional supplier should offer various printing techniques such as sublimation printing (for vibrant, fade-resistant designs), screen printing, or heat transfer. Verify if they provide private labeling, custom hangtags, and tech pack development services. The ability to handle low MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) for custom designs is a significant advantage for brands testing new market niches.

Always use secure payment methods and consider utilizing the trade assurance services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your capital. Never transfer full payments upfront; a standard industry practice is a 30% deposit and 70% balance paid after a successful pre-shipment inspection. Ensure all product specifications, lead times, and defect rate tolerances are clearly defined in a written Purchase Order (PO).

Negotiate based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Discuss volume-based discounts, where increasing the order from 500 to 2,000 units could reduce costs by 15-25%. If you are a long-term partner, negotiate for shorter lead times or priority production slots during peak seasons (e.g., before New Year or back-to-school periods).

For small trial orders or high-value samples, Air Express (DHL/FedEx/UPS) is fastest, taking 3-7 days. For bulk commercial orders, Sea Freight (FCL or LCL) is the most cost-effective, though it requires 30-45 days. Ensure you understand the Incoterms (e.g., FOB vs. DDP); DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) is often preferred by newer buyers as the supplier handles all customs duties and local delivery.

Regularly check the HS Code (typically Chapter 61 or 62) for your specific garments to determine the correct import duty rates in your country. Be aware of anti-dumping duties or specific trade barriers that may apply to textile imports from certain regions. Consulting with a licensed customs broker can prevent unexpected costs at the border.
