Size exercise book paper manufacturers

When selecting exercise book paper, the most critical factor is the Grammage (GSM). For standard school use, 55gsm to 70gsm is common, while premium notebooks use 80gsm to 100gsm to prevent ink bleed-through. You must also specify the Brightness level (ISO Brightness); a range of 88% to 94% is ideal for readability without causing eye strain. Additionally, ensure the Opacity is high enough (typically >90%) to allow double-sided writing without 'ghosting'.

B2B buyers should prioritize suppliers with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC certification, which guarantees the paper is sourced from sustainably managed forests. For the finished exercise book, ensure compliance with EN71-3 (Safety of Toys) standards regarding heavy metal content in inks and covers, especially for products intended for primary school children. ISO 9001 certification is also essential to ensure consistent batch quality.

Suppliers on Made-in-China.com typically offer customization for Ruling Patterns (e.g., single line, square grid, or Dotted), Binding Methods (stapled, spiral wire-o, or glue bound), and Cover Materials (white card, duplex board, or PP plastic). You should request UV coating or lamination for covers to increase durability and water resistance in high-traffic classroom environments.

Request samples to perform a 'Feathering and Bleed' test using various ink types (ballpoint, gel, and fountain pens). Check the Surface Smoothness (Bekk seconds); paper that is too rough will cause friction, while paper that is too slick may lead to ink smearing. A balanced Sizing (Cobb value) is necessary to control how the paper absorbs moisture and ink.

The biggest risk is Moisture Damage during sea transit. Ensure the supplier uses PE-film shrink wrapping for each bundle and places desiccants inside the shipping container. Another risk is Weight Discrepancies; since paper is heavy, ensure the Loading Capacity of the container is not exceeded to avoid fines at the port of entry. Always verify the Net Weight vs. Gross Weight on the Bill of Lading.

Paper prices are highly sensitive to Pulp Market Fluctuations. It is wise to negotiate a Price Validity Period (e.g., 15-30 days) to protect against sudden spikes. For MOQs, manufacturers usually require 5,000 to 10,000 units for custom printing. To get better rates, try to standardize the inner sheet specifications across different cover designs to allow the supplier to buy raw paper in larger, cheaper bulk rolls.

Use secure payment methods such as Letters of Credit (L/C) for large volumes or Escrow-based trade terms offered by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com. Never pay the full amount upfront; a standard 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) is the industry norm. Conduct a Pre-shipment Inspection (PSI) to verify the quantity and GSM before the final payment is released.

Due to the high weight-to-volume ratio, Sea Freight is the only economical option for bulk paper. Ensure your supplier provides a Packing List that details the number of cartons per pallet to facilitate customs clearance. Be aware of Anti-dumping Duties that some countries (like the US or parts of the EU) may impose on specific paper products from China; always check your local HS Code (typically Chapter 48) regulations before finalizing the contract.
