Silkworm quilt manufacturers

High-quality quilts use 100% long-strand mulberry silk, which is hand-pulled to create a stable, breathable layer that won't clump. You should check for a side zipper (inspection hole) at least 20-30cm long to verify the silk's integrity. Long-strand silk is pearly white, elastic, and difficult to pull apart, whereas short-strand silk or waste silk feels brittle and lacks natural luster.

To prevent silk leakage and ensure comfort, the shell should be 100% cotton with a thread count of at least 300TC (or 60s-80s yarn count). For premium markets, jacquard or sateen weaves are preferred. Ensure the fabric is down-proof treated and carries the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification to guarantee it is free from harmful substances.

Sourcing should be based on GSM (grams per square meter). Summer quilts typically range from 150-250 GSM, while winter quilts require 400-600 GSM. For B2B buyers, it is more efficient to source 'All-Season' sets, which consist of two quilts (e.g., a 1kg and a 2kg) that can be buttoned together to adapt to varying climates.

Buyers must ensure products comply with GB/T 24252-2019 (the Chinese national standard for silk quilts) for quality grading. For export to the US, FTC labeling requirements regarding fiber content are strict. For the EU, REACH compliance for dyes and CE marking (if marketed as hypoallergenic medical-grade) may be necessary.

This is a common risk where suppliers mix silk with polyester or viscose. Request a 'Burn Test' report or perform one on samples; real silk smells like burnt hair and turns to ash, while synthetics smell like plastic and form hard beads. Always mandate a Third-Party Inspection (such as SGS or Intertek) to perform a dissolution test using 84 disinfectant (sodium hypochlorite)—pure silk will dissolve completely, while impurities will remain.

Silk is sensitive to pressure and moisture. While vacuum packaging reduces shipping volume by up to 70%, long-term compression can damage the silk fibers' elasticity. Advise your supplier to use high-quality PE+PA vacuum bags and instruct end-customers to air the quilt in a shaded area for 24 hours after unpacking to restore loft. Ensure the outer cartons are 5-layer corrugated boxes to prevent moisture ingress during sea freight.

Silk is a commodity with fluctuating raw material prices. Lock in prices based on the current market rate of silk cocoons and negotiate a tiered pricing structure based on the weight of the filling rather than just the unit. For new brands, look for suppliers on Made-in-China.com that offer low MOQs (e.g., 10-50 units) for neutral packaging to test the market before committing to full OEM customization.

Given the high unit value of silk, use Secured Payment services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com. Never pay 100% upfront; a standard 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) after a successful pre-shipment inspection is the safest professional practice.
