Silk filled comforter manufacturers

When evaluating quality, the most critical factor is the silk grade (Grade 6A is the highest) and the silk type (Long-fiber Mulberry silk). You must verify the filling weight (measured in GSM - grams per square meter) to ensure it matches the intended season (e.g., 150-200 GSM for summer, 300-400 GSM for winter). Additionally, check the shell fabric thread count, where a minimum of 300TC cotton is recommended to prevent silk leakage while maintaining breathability.

Request a Burn Test report or video from the supplier; genuine silk burns slowly, smells like burnt hair, and leaves a crushable black ash, whereas synthetic fibers melt and smell like plastic. Ensure the product features a small inspection zipper (at least 20-30cm) that allows you to pull out and inspect the internal fibers. For bulk orders, insist on third-party lab testing (such as SGS or Intertek) to confirm it is 100% Mulberry Silk without chemical bleaching agents.

For the US market, products must comply with FTC textile labeling rules and flammability standards (16 CFR Part 1610). For the EU, OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification is essential to guarantee the absence of harmful substances. If you are sourcing for eco-conscious brands, look for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification for the outer shell and sustainable harvesting practices for the silk cocoons.

Look for hand-layering techniques where the silk is stretched in multiple thin layers to create a stable web; this prevents the filling from shifting or clumping. Unlike down, high-quality silk comforters should have minimal quilting (box stitching) to avoid crushing the delicate silk fibers, but they must have secure corner loops to attach to duvet covers. Ensure the edges are finished with double-stitched piping for enhanced durability.

This is a common risk in high-value textiles. Use Trade Messenger on Made-in-China.com to document all technical requirements. Specify a 'Full Refund for Non-Compliance' clause in your contract regarding silk purity. Conduct a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) where a random sample is taken from the bulk production, not just the 'golden sample' provided by the supplier.

Silk prices are tied to raw silk commodity market rates, so be wary of prices significantly below market average. Negotiate based on volume tiers; for example, a 15-20% discount is often achievable when moving from a 50-unit trial to a 500-unit bulk order. If you have a low MOQ, offer to use standard stock shell fabrics (like white 300TC cotton) to reduce costs while focusing your budget on the silk filling quality.

Silk is highly sensitive to moisture and odors. Ensure the supplier uses vacuum-sealed PE bags for inner packaging to reduce volume and protect against humidity during sea freight. However, advise customers to air out the product for 24 hours after unpacking. For shipping to the US or Europe, use DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) terms if you want the supplier to handle customs, but ensure they provide a clear breakdown of HTS codes (typically 9404.90) to avoid tariff disputes.

Always conduct transactions through Secured Trading Services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com. Never wire full payments to private bank accounts; use Escrow-based systems where payment is only released upon confirmation of shipping documents (Bill of Lading). Verify if the supplier is an Audited Supplier with a verified production facility to ensure they are not a middleman with no quality control.
