When sourcing adult novelties, the most critical factor is material biocompatibility. You must ensure products are made from medical-grade silicone, TPE, or ABS plastic that is phthalate-free and BPA-free. Request SGS or Intertek lab reports to verify compliance with REACH (EU) or FDA (US) food-grade/skin-contact standards to prevent skin irritation or chemical leaching.

For electronic or battery-operated items, check for an IPX7 rating, which guarantees the product can be submerged in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. For non-electronic items, evaluate tensile strength and tear resistance; high-quality silicone should return to its original shape immediately without showing white 'stress marks' when stretched, indicating a high purity level.

If the product includes vibration or heating functions, it must carry CE, RoHS, and FCC certifications. These ensure the internal circuitry is safe, the battery (usually lithium-ion) is stable, and the electromagnetic interference is within legal limits. Always ask for UN38.3 battery transport certificates to avoid customs seizures during shipping.

Discretion is paramount. Ensure the supplier provides neutral, unbranded outer packaging (plain brown boxes) with no descriptive text regarding the contents. For retail-ready items, verify that the inner gift box uses high-quality cardstock and includes multi-language user manuals to reduce end-user complaints and returns.

Different countries have varying obscenity laws. Some regions may classify these items as 'prohibited materials' or 'medical devices.' Always consult with a local customs broker to confirm the correct HS Code (often under 3926.90 or 9019.10) and ensure the product design does not violate local decency regulations to prevent total shipment confiscation.

Utilize secure payment methods and look for suppliers on Made-in-China.com that have undergone Audited Supplier status. Use Escrow-based payment services where funds are only released to the supplier after you confirm receipt and quality. Never wire large sums via unprotected methods to unverified accounts.

For private label (OEM) orders, suppliers usually require an MOQ of 500–1,000 units. To mitigate risk, negotiate a 'Sample First' policy where the sample cost is deducted from the final bulk order. Ask for tiered pricing (e.g., 500, 2000, 5000 units) to understand the supplier's scalability and margin potential.

Products with built-in lithium batteries are classified as Dangerous Goods (DG). You must use freight forwarders experienced in DG handling. Ensure the supplier provides a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and that the packaging meets IATA/IMDG standards to avoid delays or fires during transit.
