To ensure durability and a premium feel, you should specify 300gsm to 350gsm art paper or black-core paper (which prevents transparency under light). For a professional finish, request matte or glossy lamination and rounded corners to prevent fraying during frequent shuffling. If the product is intended for high-use environments, consider waterproof PVC materials.

Compliance is critical. Ensure the products meet EN71 (Part 1, 2, and 3) for physical and chemical safety if sold in the EU, or ASTM F963 for the US market. Even though these are adult products, they must be free of phthalates and lead in the printing inks. Additionally, ensure the packaging includes a clear '18+ Adults Only' age restriction label to comply with international retail regulations.

You should request a digital proof for content verification and a physical prototype (wet proof) to check color accuracy. Ensure the supplier uses CMYK 4-color printing or Pantone matching for brand-specific colors. Pay close attention to the registration of the print to avoid blurry text, which is a common defect in low-end card manufacturing.

Beyond standard card decks, you can request custom tuck boxes with gold/silver foil stamping, UV spotting, or embossing to increase the perceived value. Many suppliers on Made-in-China.com also offer customized instruction booklets and unique packaging inserts like velvet pouches or tin boxes for premium editions.

The primary risk is customs seizure due to local obscenity laws. Before ordering, verify that the graphic content does not violate the import regulations of your destination country. Always ensure the HS Code (typically 9504.40 for playing cards) is correctly declared and that the commercial invoice clearly describes the items as 'Adult Board Game Cards' to avoid misclassification.

Utilize Secured Trading Services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your payment. Negotiate a payment structure of 30% deposit and 70% balance after third-party inspection but before shipment. Avoid using non-traceable payment methods; instead, use L/C (Letter of Credit) or T/T (Telegraphic Transfer) through verified platform channels.

Since card decks are relatively heavy but low-volume, Sea Freight (LCL - Less than Container Load) is the most cost-effective for large orders. For smaller trial batches, Air Express (DHL/FedEx) is faster but significantly more expensive. Ensure the supplier uses double-walled corrugated outer cartons and moisture-proof inner lining to prevent the cards from warping during long-distance sea transit.

Before sharing your artwork, require the supplier to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Choose 'Audited Suppliers' on Made-in-China.com who have a proven track record of working with international brands, as they are more likely to respect copyright and design patents.
