Pure magnesium manufacturers

Pure magnesium is typically categorized by its purity level, with 99.90%, 99.95%, and 99.98% being the most common industrial grades. For B2B buyers, it is essential to request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) that details the presence of impurities like Iron (Fe), Silicon (Si), Copper (Cu), and Manganese (Mn), as these significantly affect the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the final alloy.

The choice between ingots, granules, or powder depends on the application. Ingots (typically 7.5kg or 15kg) are standard for aluminum alloying and die-casting. Granules and powders are used for steel desulfurization or chemical reactions but require specialized vacuum-sealed packaging or inert gas (Argon) filling to prevent oxidation and fire hazards during transit.

Due to its reactive nature, magnesium must comply with UN Class 4.1 (Flammable Solids) or UN Class 4.3 (Substances which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases) regulations. Ensure the supplier provides a valid Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and adheres to ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental standards, especially regarding the energy-intensive Pidgeon process.

For aerospace or automotive applications, focus on grain refinement and surface oxidation levels. High-quality pure magnesium should have a clean, silvery-white metallic luster without dark oxidation spots or slag inclusions. Buyers should verify the casting consistency to ensure uniform melting points during downstream processing.

Magnesium is classified as Dangerous Goods (DG). It is strictly prohibited from being damp; contact with water can release hydrogen gas, leading to explosions. You must ensure the supplier uses seaworthy, moisture-proof packaging (such as plastic-lined wooden crates or steel drums) and employs a freight forwarder certified to handle Class 4 hazardous materials.

Magnesium prices are highly sensitive to energy costs (coal/electricity) and environmental policies in production hubs. To secure stable pricing, consider long-term framework agreements rather than spot buying, or use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services to lock in terms. Always monitor the Silicon metal and coal price indices as they are leading indicators of magnesium price shifts.

Before placing large orders, conduct a factory audit focusing on their raw material storage and smelting capacity. Use Third-Party Inspection services (like SGS or Bureau Veritas) to verify the purity and weight at the loading port. For transaction security, prioritize Audit Suppliers on Made-in-China.com who have verified production facilities and financial standing.

Check for anti-dumping duties in your specific region (e.g., the US has historically imposed high duties on pure magnesium from certain origins). Ensure the HS Code (typically 81041100 for unwrought magnesium) is correctly declared to avoid customs delays and ensure the Certificate of Origin is provided to benefit from applicable Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
