Plastic award medals manufacturers

When sourcing plastic medals, prioritize ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) or High-Impact Polystyrene (HIPS). ABS is preferred for its superior durability, impact resistance, and ability to hold fine molded details. Ensure the plastic is BPA-free and non-toxic, especially if the medals are intended for children's school events or sports.

Request vacuum metallization or electroplating for a metallic look (Gold, Silver, Bronze). For colored plastic, ensure the use of UV-stabilized pigments to prevent fading. If the design involves printing, UV printing or silk-screen printing with a protective lacquer coating is essential to prevent the logo from scratching or peeling during transit and use.

Since these are often distributed to minors, products must comply with EN71 (EU) or ASTM F963 / CPSIA (US) standards for toy safety. This includes testing for lead content, phthalates, and sharp edges. Additionally, the neck ribbons must have a breakaway safety clasp to prevent choking hazards, particularly for primary school age groups.

Discuss 3D relief molding for a premium tactile feel versus flat 2D inserts. Inquire if the supplier offers custom-woven heat-transfer ribbons which allow for full-color logo printing on the lanyard. For cost-efficiency, ask about stock mold shapes (round, star, shield) where only the center sticker or insert is customized, reducing tooling costs by up to 100%.

Always request a pre-production sample to test the 'flex strength' of the medal-to-ribbon attachment point. Use a third-party inspection service (like those found via Made-in-China.com) to perform a drop test and smell test (strong chemical odors often indicate recycled scrap plastic with high impurity levels).

Plastic medals are lightweight but high-volume. For orders under 2,000 pieces, Air Express is viable. However, for larger bulk orders, Sea Freight (LCL) is significantly more economical. To save on costs, ask the supplier to ship the ribbons unassembled (flat-packed) to reduce the total volumetric weight of the cartons.

Suppliers often have lower MOQs (e.g., 100-500 units) for stock shapes. For custom molds, expect an MOQ of 2,000+ units. Negotiate a tiered pricing structure where the unit price drops by 15-20% when moving from 1,000 to 5,000 units. Ensure the contract specifies a fixed lead time, as event-based products are worthless if they arrive after the ceremony date.

Utilize Secured Trading Services provided by Made-in-China.com to ensure your payment is held in escrow until shipping documents are verified. Avoid direct wire transfers to private accounts; always ensure the beneficiary name matches the company name on the audited supplier profile.
