Given the harsh environment, prioritize suppliers who provide comprehensive O&M (Operation and Maintenance) manuals and on-site commissioning services. Ensure the supplier maintains a ready stock of critical wear parts (wheels, brake pads, contactors) and offers a warranty of at least 12–24 months on the powertrain. Digital diagnostic tools and remote technical support are highly valued for minimizing downtime.

The main risks include logistical damage during sea freight, non-compliance with local mining regulations, and payment insecurity. To mitigate these, use Trade Assurance services and mandate a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) by third parties like SGS or Bureau Veritas to verify that the technical specs match the Proforma Invoice before final payment.

Focus negotiations on customization flexibility (gauge and voltage) and spare parts packages. Request a 'Consumables Kit' to be included in the initial price. For large orders, negotiate staged payments (e.g., 30% deposit, 60% after successful factory test, 10% after arrival/installation) to ensure supplier accountability.
