Mek manufacturers

When purchasing MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone), you must prioritize purity levels, typically requiring a minimum of 99.5%. Key parameters include moisture content (max 0.1%), acidity (as acetic acid, max 0.003%), and non-volatile residue. Ensure the product has a clear, colorless appearance and meets the ASTM D740 standard for industrial-grade Methyl Ethyl Ketone to ensure compatibility with coatings, adhesives, and printing inks.

As a hazardous chemical, MEK must be accompanied by a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS) compliant with the GHS (Globally Harmonized System). For European markets, REACH registration is essential. Additionally, ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch and complies with ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental standards.

MEK is a highly flammable liquid (Class 3 Hazardous Good). You must verify that the supplier uses UN-certified packaging, such as galvanized steel drums (160kg-165kg) or ISO tanks for bulk shipments. Confirm that the supplier has the Export License for Precursor Chemicals, as MEK is often monitored under international conventions due to its potential use in controlled substance processing.

The price of MEK is highly sensitive to raw material costs (n-butene or sec-butyl alcohol) and crude oil fluctuations. To optimize costs, consider bulk purchasing in ISO tanks to reduce unit packaging expenses. On Made-in-China.com, look for suppliers offering tiered pricing where orders exceeding 80 drums (one 20ft container) can yield discounts of 5-10%.

MEK requires specialized hazardous goods (DG) shipping. You must ensure the freight forwarder is qualified to handle Class 3 flammable liquids. Always request the IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) declaration. For shipping to specific regions, verify port acceptance capabilities, as some ports have strict quotas or restrictions on hazardous chemical storage.

Utilize Trade Assurance services provided by platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your payment. Before full payment, hire a third-party inspection agency like SGS or Intertek to perform pre-shipment sampling and testing to ensure the chemical composition matches the agreed specifications. Avoid suppliers who cannot provide a valid hazardous chemical business license.

Focus on long-term supply contracts rather than spot purchases to hedge against price volatility. Negotiate based on purity consistency and lead time reliability. Ask for transparency in the supply chain—knowing if the supplier is a direct manufacturer or a distributor can help you secure better technical support and stable inventory during market shortages.

Check your local customs regulations regarding precursor chemicals. Many countries require an Import Permit for MEK. Ensure all documentation, including the Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and Bill of Lading, accurately reflects the HS Code (typically 2914.1200) to avoid customs delays or heavy fines for misclassification.
