Manual bar screen manufacturers

When sourcing a manual bar screen, you must prioritize material durability and structural design. Ensure the frame and bars are made of Grade 304 or 316 stainless steel to prevent corrosion in harsh sewage environments. The bar spacing (clear opening) is critical; typically, 10mm to 50mm is standard for coarse screening. Additionally, verify the installation angle, which should ideally be between 60° and 90° to balance flow efficiency and ease of manual raking.

B2B buyers should verify that the manufacturer holds ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management. For structural integrity, check if the welding follows AWS (American Welding Society) or equivalent international standards to prevent joint failure under hydraulic pressure. If the equipment is for municipal use, ensure it complies with local environmental protection agency (EPA) guidelines regarding pretreatment filtration efficiency.

Manual bar screens are primarily used in small-scale wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), industrial discharge channels, and pumping stations where flow rates are manageable. The primary function is to protect downstream equipment like pumps from large debris, plastics, and rags. For high-load scenarios, ensure the screen includes a perforated drainage plate at the top to allow captured solids to dewater before disposal.

The main advantage of a manual bar screen is its zero power consumption and low initial CAPEX. However, you must factor in labor costs for regular cleaning. To minimize long-term costs, choose a design with replaceable bars rather than a fully welded single-piece unit, allowing for easier repairs. A hot-dip galvanized finish is a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel for non-corrosive stormwater applications, but stainless steel offers the best TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) for sewage.

The primary risks include dimensional inaccuracies and shipping damage. Because these screens must fit precisely into concrete channels, always require a technical drawing approval signed by both parties before production. To mitigate transit risks, insist on seaworthy packaging, such as reinforced wooden crates or steel frames, and ensure the shipment is covered by CIF insurance.

Utilize the Secured Trading Service on Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until the goods are verified. When negotiating, request a video factory audit or a third-party inspection (like SGS or BV) to confirm the material grade using a PMI (Positive Material Identification) gun. Negotiate a payment term such as 30% deposit and 70% against the Bill of Lading (B/L) to maintain leverage.

Manual bar screens are often bulky; therefore, LCL (Less than Container Load) shipping can be expensive due to volume. Compare FOB prices to see if consolidating with other equipment is more viable. Ensure the supplier provides an HS Code (typically 842121) that matches your local tariff schedule to avoid customs delays. For U.S. or EU buyers, ensure the wooden packaging is ISPM 15 heat-treated and stamped to pass quarantine.
