Knight sword manufacturers

For decorative or display swords, stainless steel is preferred due to its corrosion resistance and high-shine finish, though it is brittle and not suitable for impact. For historical reenactment or HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), you must source swords made of high-carbon steel (such as 1045, 1060, or 1095) or spring steel (9260). These materials must undergo proper heat treatment and tempering to achieve a Rockwell hardness (HRC) typically between 45-52, ensuring the blade can flex without snapping or permanently bending.

The most critical safety feature is a full tang construction, where the blade steel extends all the way through the handle and is secured at the pommel (either peened or threaded). Avoid 'rat-tail' tangs for functional use as they are prone to snapping. Buyers should request blade flexibility tests and edge retention reports. For safety in training, ensure the sword has blunted edges and a rounded tip to comply with sparring regulations.

Swords are often classified under HS Code 9307.00 (Swords, cutlasses, bayonets, lances, and similar arms). It is vital to distinguish between 'Wall Hangers' (ornamental) and 'Battle-Ready' (functional) weapons in documentation. Ensure the supplier provides Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for any oils used for rust prevention and complies with ISO 9001 for manufacturing consistency. Always check if the blade length exceeds the legal limits of the destination country to avoid customs seizure.

Professional suppliers on Made-in-China.com usually offer OEM/ODM services including laser engraving for branding, custom hilt designs (crossguards and pommels) using investment casting, and various scabbard materials (wood, leather, or fiberglass). You can also specify finishing techniques such as mirror polishing, satin finish, or 'battle-worn' antiquing to meet specific market aesthetics.

Swords are frequently flagged as 'controlled items' or 'weapons' by customs authorities. To mitigate risk, ensure the supplier provides clear labeling (e.g., 'Handicraft' or 'Sporting Goods') and includes a declaration of non-sharpness if applicable. For shipping to countries with strict weapon laws (like the UK or Australia), use specialized freight forwarders experienced in handling edged tools to avoid total loss of cargo.

Always utilize Trade Assurance or secure payment terms to protect your capital. Before placing a bulk order, request a production sample to inspect the balance point (Center of Gravity) and the tightness of the hilt assembly. Negotiate a Quality Agreement that specifies a defect rate of less than 1% for structural issues like blade warping or loose guards. For large-scale procurement, hiring a third-party inspection service to conduct a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) is highly recommended.

Steel is highly susceptible to salt-air corrosion during long-distance transit. Insist that the supplier applies a heavy coat of anti-rust oil or a VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) plastic wrap to every blade. The swords should be packed in individual inner boxes with form-fitting foam inserts to prevent movement, which can lead to bent tips or scratched finishes during handling.
