Glass honey jar manufacturers

Buyers should prioritize High Borosilicate Glass or Soda-Lime Glass that is Lead-free and BPA-free. For honey storage, the glass must be food-grade (FDA or LFGB compliant) to ensure no chemical leaching occurs. Additionally, check for thermal shock resistance if the jars will undergo hot-filling processes, and ensure a high clarity rating to showcase the natural color and texture of the honey.

The most reliable options are Lug Caps (Twist-off) or Screw Caps equipped with Plastisol liners or PE foam gaskets. These create a hermetic seal that prevents moisture ingress, which is critical because honey is hygroscopic; moisture absorption can lead to unwanted fermentation. For premium branding, cork stoppers with shrink bands or wooden dipper lids with silicone rings are popular, provided they meet airtightness standards.

For the US market, compliance with FDA 21 CFR 177.1630 is mandatory. For the EU, jars must adhere to Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 regarding materials intended to come into contact with food. If you are sourcing from Made-in-China.com, look for suppliers who provide SGS or Intertek test reports verifying that the heavy metal content (Lead, Cadmium) is within safe limits.

Request a sample batch to perform a drop test (simulating shipping accidents) and a leakage test (storing the jar upside down for 24 hours). Inspect the glass for bubbles, inclusions, or uneven wall thickness, as these are structural weak points. Ensure the thread finish on the neck is smooth to prevent cap stripping during automated filling.

Glass is fragile, so you must mandate 5-layer corrugated export cartons with individual cell dividers (egg-crate packaging). For large volumes, insist on palletization with plastic wrap and corner protectors. It is highly recommended to negotiate a breakage allowance (usually 2-3%) in the contract or use Trade Assurance on Made-in-China.com to secure compensation for damages exceeding this limit.

Focus on Volume-Based Pricing; glass production is energy-intensive, so unit costs drop significantly at MOQs of 5,000+ units. If you require custom molds (embossed logos), negotiate for a mold fee refund once your cumulative order volume reaches a specific milestone (e.g., 50,000 units). Always clarify Incoterms—while FOB is standard, CIF might be easier for first-time buyers to manage logistics.

Prioritize Audited Suppliers on Made-in-China.com who have undergone on-site inspections by third-party agencies like SGS or TÜV Rheinland. Check their Export Experience—suppliers who frequently ship to your target country will be more familiar with local customs requirements and Anti-Dumping Duties that might apply to specific glass categories.

Since glass is heavy, Sea Freight (LCL or FCL) is the only economically viable option for bulk orders. Ensure the supplier provides a detailed Packing List and Commercial Invoice with the correct HS Code (typically 7010.90) to avoid customs delays. Consider using a freight forwarder who specializes in fragile goods to manage the 'last mile' delivery to your warehouse.
