Freight from china to mozambique manufacturers

The two main modes are Sea Freight and Air Freight. Sea freight is the most cost-effective for bulk goods, typically arriving at the Port of Maputo, Beira, or Nacala. Air freight is significantly faster and suitable for high-value, low-volume, or urgent shipments, usually landing at Maputo International Airport (MPM). For inland destinations, a combination of sea and multimodal road/rail transport is often required.

Buyers must provide a Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and Bill of Lading (or Air Waybill). Crucially, Mozambique often requires a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) certificate, typically issued by agencies like Intertek or SGS, to verify quality, quantity, and price. Additionally, a Single Electronic Document (DU) must be processed through the Mozambican customs system (MCNet) for clearance.

Given the long maritime route and potential handling at multiple ports, you should mandate heavy-duty export packaging. This includes palletizing goods, using moisture-proof inner lining (VCI), and applying reinforced corner protectors. For electronics or precision machinery, ensure the supplier uses shock-absorption materials and clearly marks the crates with international handling symbols.

Sea freight typically takes 30 to 45 days. Factors affecting this include the departure port (e.g., Ningbo, Shanghai, or Shenzhen), whether the vessel is direct or requires transshipment (often in Singapore or Durban), and port congestion at Maputo or Beira. Air freight usually takes 5 to 10 business days, including customs processing time.

The primary risks include port delays, theft during inland transit, and fluctuating exchange rates. To mitigate these, always purchase Comprehensive Marine Insurance that covers 'warehouse to warehouse.' Additionally, choose Tier-1 freight forwarders on Made-in-China.com who have established local agents in Mozambique to handle 'last-mile' delivery and navigate local bureaucracy.

For new buyers, CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) is often easier as the seller handles the logistics to the Mozambican port. However, for better cost control, FOB (Free On Board) is recommended, allowing you to appoint your own forwarder. Avoid EXW (Ex Works) unless you have a highly reliable logistics partner in China to manage the export formalities and domestic trucking.

Never pay the full shipping fee upfront to an unverified forwarder. Use secure payment methods and consider platforms like Made-in-China.com that offer trade security services. Verify the forwarder's NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) license and check their transaction history and buyer reviews to ensure reliability.

Mozambique applies Import Duties ranging from 0% to 20%, a Value Added Tax (VAT) of 16%, and potential Consumption Taxes on specific luxury goods. It is vital to check the Harmonized System (HS) Code of your products beforehand to calculate the exact tax burden and avoid unexpected costs at the border.
