I have found results from1000+products and200+suppliers aboutCustom handbag hardware
For premium handbag hardware, Zinc Alloy is the most common choice due to its excellent casting properties and cost-effectiveness. However, for luxury tiers, Solid Brass is preferred for its weight, durability, and superior hand-feel. Ensure the supplier uses Eco-friendly materials that are lead-free and nickel-free to meet global safety standards.
The plating quality determines the longevity of the hardware. You should require Rack Plating rather than barrel plating for a smoother, more consistent finish. Specifically, ask for a hanging plating process to avoid scratches. The hardware should pass a 24 to 48-hour Salt Spray Test to ensure corrosion resistance, and a UV coating or electrophoresis layer should be applied to prevent oxidation and color fading.
For functional components, focus on mechanical durability. Swivel hooks should have a smooth 360-degree rotation without catching, and spring gates must pass a fatigue test of at least 5,000 cycles. For locks, ensure the alignment tolerance is within ±0.1mm to prevent jamming. Always request technical drawings (CAD/PDF) to verify dimensions before mold opening.
Hardware must comply with REACH (EU) and California Proposition 65 (US) regarding heavy metal content. If the handbags are intended for children's wear, they must also meet CPSIA standards. Ensure your supplier can provide SGS or Intertek certification reports for each batch of raw materials used.
Custom hardware requires unique molds, which involves a Mold Fee. To protect your investment, sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to ensure the supplier does not sell your proprietary designs to other buyers. Always request a pre-production sample (PPS) from the final mold for approval before authorizing full-scale mass production.
When negotiating, focus on the Total Cost of Ownership, including mold fees, unit price, and defect rates. Ask for a tiered pricing structure where the mold fee is refunded once a certain order volume (e.g., 5,000 or 10,000 pieces) is reached. Prioritize Audited Suppliers on Made-in-China.com who have verified production lines and quality management systems.
Utilize Secured Payment services provided by the platform to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment. Hire a third-party inspection agency to perform a Random Sampling Inspection (AQL 2.5/4.0) at the factory before the final balance is paid. Pay close attention to color consistency (D65 light source) across different production batches.
Since hardware is dense and heavy, Air Freight or Express (DHL/FedEx/UPS) is suitable for samples or urgent small batches. However, for bulk production, Sea Freight (LCL) is significantly more economical. Ensure the hardware is individually wrapped in tissue paper or polybags and packed in double-walled corrugated cartons with moisture-absorbent silica gel to prevent scratching and oxidation during transit.
