Cat 320d excavator manufacturers

Buyers should prioritize the engine model (typically Cat C6.4 ACERT), ensuring it meets the required net power (approx. 103 kW/138 hp). Critical performance metrics include a maximum digging depth of 6.72 meters and a bucket capacity ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 m³. For used units, verify the operating hours (ideally under 5,000 for premium resale) and the condition of the hydraulic pumps, as these are the core components for operational efficiency.

Confirm that the machine complies with EPA Tier 3 or EU Stage IIIA equivalent emission standards, depending on your local environmental regulations. Safety-wise, ensure the cabin is ROPS (Roll-Over Protective Structure) and FOPS (Falling Object Protective Structure) certified. For cross-border trade, request the CE marking for European markets or specific local compliance certificates to avoid customs clearance issues.

The Cat 320d is a versatile 'workhorse' suitable for heavy construction, road building, and quarrying. When sourcing, specify the undercarriage type (Standard vs. Long/L) based on terrain stability needs. For specialized tasks, inquire about auxiliary hydraulic lines to support attachments like hydraulic hammers, shears, or grapples, which significantly increase the machine's ROI.

Perform a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis. While a used Cat 320d offers a lower initial capital expenditure (CAPEX), you must factor in residual value, fuel consumption efficiency, and potential overhaul costs. A well-maintained used unit from a reputable supplier on Made-in-China.com can save 30-50% compared to new models, provided the undercarriage wear is below 40%.

The most significant risks include hidden mechanical defects, misrepresented operating hours, and fraudulent documentation. To mitigate these, always hire a third-party inspection service (like SGS or BV) to conduct an on-site 'cold start' and 'load test' before final payment. Ensure the Serial Number (PIN) is verified against Caterpillar’s global database to confirm the machine's true manufacture year and service history.

Focus negotiations on bundled value rather than just the unit price. Request the inclusion of wear-part kits (filters, seals, teeth) for the first 1,000 hours of operation. Negotiate for FOB (Free On Board) terms to maintain control over shipping costs, and insist on a warranty period (e.g., 6-12 months on major components) even for used equipment to ensure supplier accountability.

For a 20-ton excavator, Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) shipping is the safest method to prevent structural damage. Alternatively, Flat Rack containers are used for routes where Ro-Ro is unavailable. Ensure the supplier provides professional lashing and rust-proofing (wax coating) for sea transit. Always secure Marine Cargo Insurance covering 'All Risks' to protect against maritime accidents.

Utilize secure payment methods such as Letters of Credit (L/C) or trade assurance services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com. Never wire full payments to personal accounts; ensure the beneficiary name matches the company name on the Proforma Invoice and Business License. Use staged payments (30% deposit / 70% after inspection and before loading) to maintain leverage.
