Angora yarn manufacturers

When evaluating Angora yarn, the fiber grade is paramount. Look for Grade A (Premium) fibers, which are typically over 40mm in length to minimize shedding and pilling. The micron count should ideally be between 12-16 microns for maximum softness. Additionally, verify the blend ratio; pure 100% Angora is extremely warm but lacks elasticity, so many B2B buyers prefer blends with 30-50% Merino wool or Nylon to improve structural integrity and durability for garment production.

Due to animal welfare concerns, reputable suppliers must provide Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) or specific Animal Welfare Policy documentation. For chemical safety, ensure the yarn meets OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, which guarantees the absence of harmful substances like formaldehyde or azo dyes. If exporting to the EU, compliance with REACH regulations is mandatory to ensure all dyes and processing agents are registered and safe.

Perform a burn test: genuine Angora (animal protein) will smell like burning hair and leave a friable black ash, whereas synthetic mimics will smell like plastic and form a hard bead. Furthermore, request a pilling resistance test report (ISO 12945-2) and check for colorfastness to light and washing (Grade 4 or higher). A high-quality yarn should have a consistent halo (bloom) without excessive loose fibers that indicate short-staple waste.

Angora yarn is prized for being seven times warmer than sheep's wool and exceptionally lightweight. Lace or Fingering weight is ideal for high-end thermal underwear and delicate shawls. DK or Worsted weights are best suited for luxury knitwear, hats, and gloves. Because of its hollow fiber structure, it provides superior insulation, making it a top choice for premium winter fashion collections and therapeutic garments for joint warmth.

The biggest risk is material adulteration, where suppliers mix Angora with cheaper rabbit hair or synthetic fibers without disclosure. To mitigate this, use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services and insist on third-party laboratory testing (such as SGS or Intertek) before the final balance payment is released. Another risk is moisture regain fraud; ensure the yarn is weighed at a standard moisture regain of 15% to avoid paying for water weight.

For custom colors (Pantone matching), suppliers usually require an MOQ of 50kg-100kg per color. You can negotiate a tiered pricing structure where a 10-15% discount is applied for orders exceeding 500kg. Always request a lab dip for color approval before bulk production. To save costs, ask if the supplier has 'ready-to-ship' stock colors, which often have much lower MOQs (as low as 1kg) and faster lead times.

Angora is highly susceptible to moth damage and moisture. Ensure the supplier uses vacuum-sealed plastic inner packaging and sturdy, moisture-proof corrugated outer cartons. For shipping to humid climates, include desiccant silica gel packs in every carton. When importing, choose Air Freight for high-value, low-volume yarn to reduce the risk of prolonged exposure to sea-port humidity, or ensure temperature-controlled containers for large sea shipments.

Check the HS Code (typically 5102.19) for specific import duties in your country. Some regions have strict biosecurity regulations regarding animal hair; ensure the supplier provides a Veterinary Health Certificate and a Certificate of Origin. Being aware of Anti-Dumping duties or specific trade agreements between your country and China can help you calculate the Total Landed Cost accurately.
