Solas approved rescue boat manufacturers

A SOLAS-approved rescue boat must be constructed from flame-retardant GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) or aluminum. It must have a length between 3.8 meters and 8.5 meters and be capable of carrying at least 5 seated persons and one person lying on a stretcher. The engine must be an inboard diesel or outboard compression-ignition engine with a speed of at least 6 knots for at least 4 hours when fully loaded.

The boat must strictly adhere to the LSA Code (Life-Saving Appliance Code) and the IMO (International Maritime Organization) SOLAS III/4, III/21, and III/34 regulations. Ensure the product carries the Wheelmark (MED) or USCG (US Coast Guard) approval. Suppliers should provide certificates from recognized organizations like ABS, DNV, BV, or LR.

Key features include self-righting capabilities (or being easily righted by the crew), retro-reflective tapes, and a painter release hook that can be operated under tension. The boat must also be equipped with a fixed compass, bailing facilities, and towing equipment capable of towing the largest liferaft carried on the ship.

Prioritize boats with UV-resistant gel coats and corrosion-resistant stainless steel (316L) fittings. Maintenance schedules should be clearly defined, focusing on engine starting tests (weekly) and davit-launching inspections. Buyers should verify the availability of global service stations for annual inspections and five-year pressure tests.

The biggest risk is certification mismatch; a boat may be 'SOLAS compliant' but lack the specific Class Certificate (e.g., CCS, DNV) required by your flag state. Another risk is shipping damage to the hull or engine. Always insist on professional maritime cradles and shrink-wrap packaging for sea freight.

Utilize Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading Services to protect your payment until the goods are shipped. It is highly recommended to hire a third-party inspector (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), including a water-entry test and engine load test, before final payment.

Negotiate for a comprehensive spare parts kit (including filters, impellers, and spark plugs) to be included in the unit price. Discuss warranty extensions—standard is 12 months, but 24 months is negotiable for bulk orders. Ensure the Incoterms are clearly defined; CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) is often preferred for large maritime equipment to ensure the supplier handles the complex logistics.

Rescue boats are often shipped via 40FR (Flat Rack) containers or as Breakbulk cargo. You must ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Origin and a Declaration of Conformity to avoid customs delays. Check if your country imposes specific maritime safety equipment import duties or requires pre-shipment inspections (PSI).
